Okay, I had a flash-back the other day when I saw someone attempt to pop a pimple on a TV commercial. It took me back to when I was attempting to do the same thing so many years back and I can almost hear my dad go in his unique way: “Don’t try to bust the pimple, it will only make it worse…AND will leave a scar!”

So wait, I had to deal not only with stubborn and very irritating skin eruptions, I had to deal with the fact that if I pop one or two, I’d be left with a permanent discoloration. Imagine how I must have felt.

Now, considering that acne affects as much as 80% of teenagers and others in their early twenties, there is also a notable percentage that suffers from and thus needs help with scars from pimples and helpful remedies

Well, thankfully, in my case, my acne did disappear and THANK GOD, I have no scars to worry about…at least now. Cause truthfully, I did have a couple of scars I used to be worried about from acne treatment using conventional methods, but now the natural options I used for acne and the scars from pimples and helpful remedies have laid the foundation for a properly healed skin.

So what in the first place could create such acne scars?

Acne scars come from connective tissue that the body uses to repair damage done to a certain area. Together with antibodies and white blood cells, they work together to heal the wound. After the healing process, you are left with a scar.

One good form of treating and controlling acne scars is actually preventing acne in the first place.

Furthermore, if one is unfortunate to already have existing acne, acne scars can still be prevented even with the presence of pimples. This is done by facilitating the healing of the acne, the faster it heals, the shallower the acne scar will be, making it easier to treat.

Now, in my honest opinion, in using some simple and extremely low-cost methods of natural acne treatment, you will not only prevent and cure pimples and breakouts, but also have a successful regimen for scars from pimples and helpful remedies…and naturally at that.

The skin, as is the whole body, can rejuvenate itself when assisted by you to work optimally as a body part…you perhaps only need to be shown how.

In spite of the numerous acne help methods out there, keep in mind that natural methods of acne treatment are perhaps the most beneficial. I have written on some steps for an acne home remedy regimen, but I must add the necessity of sleep as an integral part.

Sleep and relaxation are two vital necessities that come in handy for detoxifying the body. Therefore, for any acne treatment or remedy program to work successfully, ridding the body of excessive toxins has to be included.

An observance of nature will show us that animals love relaxation and sleep. They get as much sleep as they want. Rest and sleep are essential to recharge our nervous energy as our physical, emotional and mental balance depends on the quantity and quality of these vital necessities. They are the only things that recharge these batteries and allow for the proper elimination of metabolic wastes.

By now, we all are aware that there is a connection between our internal health (physical and emotional) and acne, so suffice it to say that if something as minuscule yet essential as sleep is for improving health, then we must seek to get plenty of it to aid in acne control.

Here are some tips to help you sleep better

-Cut caffeine

-Avoid alcohol as a sleep aid.

-Relax before bedtime.

-Exercise at the right time for you.

-Keep your bedroom quiet, dark, and comfortable. –

-Eat right, sleep tight.

-Avoid Excessive Napping.

-Keep pets off the bed.

-Avoid watching TV, eating, and discussing emotional issues in bed.

Besides rejuvenating the body, sleep eliminates chronic stress which most people will tell you aggravates acne problems.

Borrowing from one of my previous posts, remember to sleep on the right side, with a clean pillow-case and hair that’s free from greasy products.

So there you have it: Sleep better to improve your skin…and overall health.

Believe it or not, the caption of this posting in regards to acne help is not a misprint. Yes, as part of a natural acne treatment regimen…PLEASE AVOID THE USE OF MICROWAVES.

I stumbled on this the hard way actually.

As I mentioned before, I have been using fasting as part of my natural treatment for acne. Considering how clean and consequently sensitive that it makes the body, you become much more susceptible to toxemia after a fast.

This becomes even more apparent in your skin condition.

Now, I fasted a while back for about 2 weeks (just a personal thing…) then I happened to make the laxative tea in a microwave for about 3 nights in a row, surprisingly I was weaker and guess what? I had 3 big bumps right under my lips.

Naturally, I wondered why I was having acne during a fasting period as I was supposed to be getting cleaner. I assessed everything I was doing, singled out the fact that I was using a microwave and researched online for its dangers,

Turns out this device is more hazardous than you think.

Here is a simplified explanation of the dangers:

Microwave cooking changes the molecular structure of food. In test subjects who ate microwaved food, the following changes in blood chemistry were observed:

-Decrease in hemoglobin values

-Decrease in HDL Cholesterol (the good kind)

-Decrease in lymphocytes and leukocytes (white blood cells, the ones that kill germs)

-Increase in luminous power by luminous bacteria exposed to blood of volunteers (in essence, radioactive energy was passed on from the microwaved food to the blood cells of those who ate the food)

- Lymphatic disorders were observed, leading to decreased ability to prevent certain types of cancers.

- An increased rate of cancer cell formation was observed in the blood.

- Increased rates of stomach and intestinal cancers were observed.

-Higher rates of digestive disorders and a gradual breakdown of the systems of elimination were observed.

I came across a ton of information friends, but in a nutshell when I stopped using it, my energy returned and skyrocketed (during the fast) and the bumps vanished, never to return.

Co-incidence? I think not. I’ve never used the microwave again…and I’ve never had to deal with those bumps.

It made me wonder how all these years that I had similar bumps; I was perhaps making matters worse trying to treat them with all those so-called acne treatment medications.

Moreover, let’s not count the number of opportunities I had to meet people, I mean considering the hideous acne bumps on my face, who would have given me the time of day? (Hey, people judge you on the exterior no matter what you may have been told folks…)

Well, I hope this anecdote helps in your research for natural acne treatment options.

It is not uncommon for pregnant women to experience acne during pregnancy or later. However with the fears of using drugs (topical or otherwise), the worries of stress, hormonal changes and the life within, it could be a challenge to control pregnancy acne.

Now, even though the skin returns to its normal condition within a month or two after the baby is born, there are some suggestions to control pregnancy acne and still protect your baby and you as well.

1. Follow a healthy regimen of cleanliness to control bacteria.

2. Exercise daily to stimulate circulation to all parts of the body including the skin

3. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables that have been thoroughly washed.

4. Avoid Junk foods (for the your health and that of the baby’s)

5. Use simple acne control methods such as changing the pillowcases daily, rinsing the face with cold water, facial massaging and steaming etc.

6. AVOID MICROWAVES…This tip at all costs!!!

In addition to the steps above, it must be noted that there are some oral medicines that can be dangerous if taken during pregnancy.

Medications containing retinoic acid, which is used to treat severe acne, are dangerous for the unborn child.

What will be advised will be a healthy and nutrient rich diet of your fruits and veggies, mild stress-reliving exercises such as pregnancy yoga, and of course simple low-cost tips and hygienic procedures to control pregnancy acne breakouts.

Keep in mind, the body is changing as you’re bringing new life to the world so that may be the cause of the acne during pregnancy, therefore, it will be safe to say take heart, after the baby is born, the situation may very well pass.

Yes, one may think they have stumbled on that magic cure for acne and its problems. It may target the external factors but soon as you stop using the products, one sees the pimples coming right back. Well, it’s obvious we need to target the root cause of acne.

Most acne medications only mask the external symptoms of acne and do nothing to stop the real cause of acne.

Well, what’s the real cause of acne?

Friends, let’s realize first that the skin as a whole (next to the lungs) is one of the most important excretory organs in the body. Keep in mind that the bowels, colon and kidneys are also vital and important excretory organs as well.

Now, acne occurs when your body contains more debris than your kidneys and bowels can remove. (Your kidneys and bowels are the two primary channels of elimination that your body expel toxics and waste products through.)

The logical reason for toxic build up is mainly the consumption of toxic food.

It’s safe to say these are the mucus forming foods such as junk food, animal products, most grains (whole and or polished), pesticides etc

Once these toxics build up, your kidneys and bowels can get overloaded and clogged up, causing it to not function properly. When that happens some of the load will be dumped onto your liver..

This means, your liver will be doing some of your kidney’s work. So now, your liver gets overloaded and it too will not work at full capacity.

When that happen your body will expel toxins through your lungs and skin (your secondary channels of elimination). And this is when acne occurs. This is when your skin starts to breakout.

Friends, it must be noted that the foods that are the exact opposites of the mucus forming ones mentioned earlier are the mucus-binding, alkaline forming foods which co-incidentally act as intestinal brooms to clear out all the debris in the human pipe system.

Suffice it to say then that avoiding disease forming foods, replacing them with body-healing foods and simple techniques like RINSING the face, changing pillowcases regularly, shampooing the hair etc will (combined) be the best methods of clearing up the skin naturally and effectively.

There are over 50 million people in America alone who suffer from acne and sadly this permits for exploitation from the many marketers and impostors out to make a fast buck at the expense of the vulnerable and desperate.

Now, I was once in the category of the frantic and susceptible, in my desperate attempts to get rid of my acne-both as a teenager and a young adult- but not anymore.

After adopting the use of drug-free methods of curing my acne such as a drastic change in my diet, facial massaging and other basic hygienic steps such as changing my pillow-cases daily, having a towel that was exclusively for my face etc, I have since swore off the use of acne medications as I am of the firm belief that most don’t work and may actually aggravate an already debilitating situation.

Now friends, I tried it all (well everything except plastic surgery) Proactive, Clearasil, Neutrogena, Benzoyl peroxide medications…you name it, I tried it and from my experience, nothing worked.

One product would probably just dry my skin out that I’d literally have to rotate my jaw just to get elasticity back in my face; while the other would so irritate my skin, I’d have to be so careful not to even touch it.

Moreover, thinking about the time I spent and wasted using these products actually makes me laugh.

For one I had to use a cleanser, then the mask (10-15 minutes for this one folks) and afterwards a toner and ‘concealer’? Now, keep in mind, I’m a guy and no, I’m not in show-business.

Let’s take a look at some other popular products like Adapalene gel (Differin), Clindamycin phosphate (Cleocin T), Azelic acid (Azelex), Tretinoin.

Friends, most people-like I did -develop side effects from using prescription topical acne remedy medications. These include stinging, burning, redness, peeling, scaling, or discoloration of the skin. Hey, aren’t we trying to get a smoother skin here…?!

In addition, when I was prescribed tetracycline and minocycline, both on different occasions by a dermatologist for oral medication, I had to deal with upset stomach, dizziness and lightheadedness which usually kicked in within minutes after use.

Moreover, I was told I’d have to take oral antibiotics for as long as 4 to 6 months for an effective acne treatment! 4-6 months…?! Now I don’t know about you, but that is an awfully long time to wait for an acne remedy to work, especially when a natural inexpensive alternative for the treatment of acne could give you the same results in less than 7 to 10 days when done properly.

Thankfully my acne has since gone and though I mentioned I wasn’t in show business above, maybe I’d give it a shot eh? That’s how improved my skin condition is and how much more confident I feel and this is from a guy who loathed and cringed to have his picture taken or to even step out from his room.

We all differ, so if you’ve had success from acne medications, by all means feel free to use them, however, if like the majority you have had no success with the wide range of so called acne remedies then why not try alternative methods of clearing up your skin. It worked for me and chances are it can work for you.

It’s been said in the drugless fraternity that “you are what you eat”.

Fruit is also highly esteemed as a helpful near panacea for a plethora of human ailments. Well let’s see which ones are helpful for skin disorders, namely acne.

-Apples –“Remember the saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Well

It could mean keeps the ‘dermatologist’ away in this case. When in season, (mostly through fall and winter, try to eat 3 – 4 apples a day while working to alleviate acne. Apples are good for skin health. From experience, you are best of eating ONLY organic apples and you could actually get great deals at your local Trader Joe’s or Co-Op Stores, or Open Air Farmer’s market. Heck, they are usually on sale as a “365” item at Whole foods so they shouldn’t be hard to acquire

-Apricots – These are a summer stone fruit. Eat as many as you like. They are excellent sources of vitamin A, the B-complex vitamins and fiber. As with all fruits, I suggest eating organically grown apricots only for acne treatment.

-Bananas – This fruit needs no introduction, being that it’s available year round, and even organically is only 27cents for each one; you’ve got to at least one banana a day. Dr. Doug Graham, a trainer for several athletes and show-biz stars, goes as far as to saying anywhere between 5-15 of these babies in the afternoon after your physical exertions are extremely excellent. From my experience, they are very useful for combating constipation, which perhaps is the main cause of acne. One more thing, they have been said to have EVERYTHING the human body needs to survive.

-Berries-These are a spring time fruit. This signifies their properties as cleansing items as that period of the year is when nature does a ‘clean-house’ of some sorts. They help a weak kidney and are good for creating good skin on your face. They are also good for constipation and various skin disorders – eczema, acne, psoriasis

-Cantaloupes – In the summer times, I could live of these or any other melons and be just fine. Being as they are high in vitamin A and C, and have many other minerals, they are good for any type of skin problems

- Cherries – Hey, try squeezing one of this when they are fully ripe. Doesn’t the juice resemble one’s blood? Needless to say, they are good blood cleansers and help the liver and kidney. They promote regular bowel movements. I will have you know that an exclusive diet of these for 3 plus days can be a very, very effective camouflaged fasts and for acne, it’s definitely up there with natural healing substances.

- Figs: As a Mucus-binding (disease Healing Food), they are ranked as the most potent fruit for eliminating debris in the body. They are available in the summer times, but dry figs could be soaked overnight in other periods to re-hydrate them for consumption as they are indeed great overall body healing and building foods.

-Grapefruits – helps to dissolve and eliminate poisons from drugs thus improving the liver function. These, being an acid fruit, are best consumed in the earlier parts of the day. As with all citrus fruits, they are very mucus-binding and cleansing as well.

-Grapes –I don’t know about you, but come late summer, I can last for days on Globe Grapes (don’t believe in seedless fruits), and suffice it to say that for combating constipation, cleansing and building the blood and body, they are extremely effective items.

-Lemons: Everyone should squeeze lemon in water first thing in the morning. They are very alkaline forming, and restore balance to the body. They also help loosen up any debris that fruits and vegetables (with their broom-like qualities) may have loosened up the day before.

Well, truth is you can’t go wrong with eating any and a lot of fruits when in season and preferably organically grown to combat acne problems.

If you want to take it to the next level, a juice fast is definitely worth the shot too for a superior acne treatment.

You do have good skin underneath, just feed it with the right substances and you’d see the results for yourself.

How To Cure Acne Naturally

There have been many times I have seen people marred with the debilitating skin disorder known as acne and perhaps because it reminds me of how my own face used to be, I can’t help but be thankful that I no longer suffer from the disease.

Not that I am insensitive to their pain, but knowing what I went through even mentally and emotionally, I sure am glad the pimples are gone.

However, it is my hope that in an attempt to reach out to such patients, in writing this article, maybe they could be led down the path of finding a cure for themselves and with natural, in-expensive and common sense methods.

Now friends, to know how acne can be cured, you’ve got to know what causes acne.

It’s perhaps the same thing that causes 90% of human ailments, the improper foods that we eat!

Why is that so?

Well, most of what we eat leads to constipation and eventually a myriad of human ailments, including acne.

That considered, it is safe to say to figure out how acne can be cured, the first step is a change in dietetic habits-plain and simple.

So, as I had to do several years ago, I hereby advise each and all acne patients to eliminate mucus forming and constipating foods from their diets, including but not limited to

1. Junk Foods.

2. Processed Foods.

3. Animal Dander

4. Most Grains (whole or not) (Brown rice, millet, quinoa, amaranth might be some compromising exceptions if grains have to be consumed.)

Once these are done away with, the next step would be to replace these with alkaline, and body healing foods (known for their healing and nourishing properties) which include your fruits, leafy and some root vegetables.

Needless to say, not only will this simple change in diet make for a clearer and smoother skin, it will also give the added benefit of improved health and overall wellness.

Another really important that I must add is BY ALL MEANS AVOID THE MICROWAVE.

This will be the topic of another article friends, but trust me; I will not intentionally give you misleading information regarding your health.

In addition, to placate your curiosity, you can always Google the health hazards of Microwaves to see for yourself how much hard this convenience device may be doing to your body, which of course is reflected on the exterior by the appearance and state of your skin’s health.

Now, back to this article, to make the afore-mentioned dietetic changes even more effective for curing acne, you could go as far as to try a simple fast for a few days on fresh fruit juices, or try the simpler yet more-or-less effective method of trying a restricted diet of a mono-meal of fruits.

This fast/restricted diet of fruits should precede any dietetic change for the better and can be applied in this order.

1.    A week of fruits then a juice fast for 2-3 days then another week of fruits.

2.    Go straight into a 2-3 day fast, then re-attune the visceral organs to solid food with 2-3 days of raw, seasonal and if possible organic fruits. (Co-ops, farmers markets will come in handy to save money when buying organic, and of course the use of a specified Fruit and Vegetable Wash is indispensable. Moreover, if you just cannot go organic for some fruits, at least try to make sure they are not on the Dirty Dozen list of the most pesticide-contaminated fruits and vegetables which include apples, pears, most imported fruits and berries, root and fruit vegetables. (For more information, you can try a Google search on that as well.)

Friends, I also recommend that contrary to the popular belief handed down from generations to generations, do see to it that you skip breakfast and for this simple reason:

This format adheres to a scientifically proven principle that the human body goes through a cleansing process from twelve midnight until twelve noon, and a building program from twelve noon to twelve midnight, therefore your meals during these respective periods should be harmonious with the natural processes.

As a substitute for breakfast and even as a great daily cleansing practice, you could simply squeeze 2 lemons into 2 quarts of room-temperature water and drink that.

Then, starting at 11:30 earliest, you could then eat your fruits of choice.

Furthermore, other steps that I recommend you add to this dietetic approach on controlling acne are:

1. Changing your pillowcases.

2. Applying NOTHING but plain cool water and Witch Hazel to the face (cool that is) for rinsing. (after showering, and do ensure the upper body is well covered so as not to chill the exposed chest.)

3. When taking a shower, please ensure to

a. Use a shower-filter.

b. Use Fragrance-Free, Hypo-Allergenic Shampoos and Facial Bar Soaps (Personally I use Burt’s Bees and Neutrogena Respectively, I’m still in search for a more natural face wash but, hey…)

c. Not have the water running directly on your face, for some reason it tends to aggravate breakouts even more. Perhaps because it dries out the skin and in the process of the organ trying to re-lubricate it self, maybe acne tends to be aggravated.

4.  Avoiding excessive make-up

5. For males, shaving (mostly downward) in the direction of the beard’s growth

So there you have it, the fundamental steps that I took to control my acne that you too can implement to getting the clearer skin you’ve always wanted…without spending excessive money and time on so-called acne cures.
