Well, let me start by giving this Disclaimer. I am not a fan of using any…ANY drugs period.

And marijuana falls into that list. (So this video does NOT endorse or condemn Marijuana use, I’m just reporting the news!)

So, with that being said, ladies and gentlemen, a new study is stating that according to the company developing a new product, an experimental marijuana-based drug called Epidiolex is said to aid in reducing the seizures of epilepsy patients.

In fact, the New York Times reported that “GW Pharmaceuticals” (the makers of the drug) said the medicine was more effective than a placebo in reducing convulsive seizures in children with a rare type of epilepsy called Dravet syndrome.

Now, the average age of the 120 patients in the study was 10 and they suffered an average of 13 convulsive seizures a month at the start of the study, despite taking other drugs and apparently, half the children were given Epidiolex and half a placebo.

Now, I am going to be going over some statistics and numbers:

-Apparently, during the 14-week study, those taking the drug had a 39 percent reduction in seizure frequency, compared with 13 percent in the placebo group.

-HOWEVER, on the flip side (and just as I expected), the New York Times reported that the Major side effects of Epidiolex included drowsiness, diarrhea, decreased appetite, fatigue, fever, vomiting, and upper respiratory infection.

Nevertheless, GW Pharmaceuticals, (the makers of the drugs) did say further study findings will be presented at a medical conference.

So, with ALL of that being stated, the U.K.-based company said it will meet with U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials to discuss if the findings of this single study could be used to approve Epidiolex to treat Dravet syndrome.

And it should be noted that as of the time of this video, there are no drugs specifically approved for this medical condition, which is said to affect about 5,000 children in the U.S. (FYI: this is according to the New York Times)

But let me point this out folks, If this drug is approved by the FDA, According to the same report from the times, Epidiolex would become the first marijuana-based prescription drug to be approved in the U.S.

On that note, here’s a statement from the study’s principal investigator Dr. Orrin Devinsky, of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, New York University Langone Medical Center. Devinsky’s statement: “The results of this Epidiolex pivotal trial are important and exciting, as they represent the first placebo-controlled evidence to support the safety and efficacy of pharmaceutical cannabidiol in children with Dravet syndrome.”

Well, what do you ALL think about Devinsky’s statement and this whole story in general?

Do you think the makers of this drug-GW Pharm-might be on to something?

Are you concerned with the side effects I mentioned earlier on about this drug?
