Alright, I have always wondered why chronic smokers can’t just quit the bad habit of tobacco smoking and the reasons I was given were the smokers were addicted to nicotine and can’t just quit.

Well, a new research tends to think otherwise. Apparently, new research suggests quitting all at once beats a more gradual approach.

Now, let’s get into some more details of this report.

Apparently, the study found that after four weeks, nearly half of those who quit “cold turkey” were still NOT smoking!

HOWEVER, compared to people who quit gradually over two weeks, only 39 percent were smoke-free at four weeks, researchers said.

Here’s a statement from the study’s lead author Nicola Lindson-Hawley (who, by the way, is a post-doctoral researcher with the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom): “Most people thought cutting down would suit them better, But whatever they thought, it turned out they were better to try to quit abruptly.”

Now, the results from the study were published online March 14 in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

And, in case anyone out there listening didn’t know this, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Smoking is still the leading preventable cause of death!

I mean here are some VERY DISTURBING statistics folks….

  1. According to the CDC, each year, approximately 400,000 Americans die because of smoking.
  2. For every person who dies due to smoking, another 30 people are living with smoking-related illness.

So, taking these factors into consideration, if you or someone you know wants to quit smoking, why would it be better to simply go “cold turkey” and quit abruptly?

Well, according to Dr. Michael Fiore, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who’s helped develop federal guidelines about quitting smoking, “Those who try to quit gradually often succumb to “the challenges of life even when they have very good intentions and a lot of structure.”

Still, Fiore says physicians should let patients try to quit gradually if they prefer that approach. Here’s his statement: “If I see them two months later and they crashed and burned, I’ll say, ‘You’ve learned from that, let’s try this quick-cessation thing.’”

So, what do you guys think of this story?

Let me add my 2 cents.

Personally, I think if anyone has the will-power to do something, they can achieve whatever they want-especially if it’s to quit a dangerous habit!

However, I do understand some people may need help when it comes to quitting smoking, so let me offer this recommendation that I stumbled upon in the popular eBook (the Master Cleanser by Dr. Stanley Burroughs.

He says: For those who wish to quit smoking— every time you have the desire for a smoke, place— with your finger— a small amount of the “Oil of Clove” on back of the tongue and you immediately lose your desire to smoke.

Now, I have never been addicted to tobacco so I don’t know how effective this method is, but it definitely can’t hurt to try it out and it could in fact help immensely (so, it’s worth a shot…)

Also, one can look into fasting on juices or a restricted RAW fruit diet to help cleanse the body of nicotine to kick the addiction. Either way it goes, to all the smokers who may be listening to this, you definitely have to look into quitting the habit.
