Ladies…have you heard of this? Apparently a new study suggests that sleeping too much or too little during pregnancy may prompt weight gain.

Now, who says this?

Well, that will be Dr. Francesca Facco, who’s with the U.S. National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. She says in a news release from the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine “We know that poor sleep in pregnancy has been linked to adverse pregnancy outcomes, Our findings provide a potential mechanism [weight gain] for poor sleep in pregnancy and adverse outcomes.”

Now, it should be pointed out that although previous research has suggested that poor sleep is associated with weight gain and obesity in women who are not pregnant, the authors of this new study wanted to examine a possible link between sleep and weight gain during pregnancy.

So, let’s get into some specifics here.

1.    The study included 751 pregnant women whose sleep was monitored for seven straight days.

2.    About two-thirds of the women slept between seven and nine hours a night.

3.    The researchers found that short or long sleep duration was associated with extra weight gain during pregnancy.

4.    The Research presented at meetings is considered preliminary until published in a peer-reviewed medical journal.

Well, there you have it ladies (and guys who may be curious about this…) | So, what do you all think? Do you think there could be some truth or validity to this information or study?

Personally, I believe as long as pregnant women (or anyone for that matter) make sure they stick to minimally processed Alkaline Forming foods such as Raw Fruits and Vegetables and properly cooked vegetables with minimal condiments, I am of the firm belief that weight gain during pregnancy will be at the minimal level. Furthermore, in eating such a diet, not only will you be able to improve and maintain your health, you will also be making sure your baby is provided with the best quality foods during the gestation stage and even after birth when the baby should be on mostly breast milk.
