What Wonders Exist In One’s Mind!

What Wonders Exist In One’s Mind!

Some phenomena such as precognition, clairvoyance and telepathy have been researched by Dr. J.B. Rhine of Duke University and he has stated that these are only some of the powers of the human mind ranging the universe without obstruction of space and time. Something is inherent in us that is greater than the physical and beyond the material.

Here is an excerpt of an anecdote of just how powerful the human mind can be, as illustrated by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale author of “The Power of Positive Thinking”

“On the Afternoon of 14th June, 1955, Thomas Whittaker, a welder from Boston, got a sudden and strong hunch. He had the feeling that something was wrong .He didn’t know what it was, but he sensed it so strongly that he left work and got into his car and started driving all the way to Washington Street where his company had suspended work.

When he finally got there, he looked down into a 14-foot trench that had been dug down the centre of the street. There in the bottom he saw a cave-in.  The sides of the trench had collapsed and projecting out of the tons of dirt and debris was a human hand!

Immediately, Thomas jumped down the trench and began clawing away at the dirt with his own hands and dug deep enough to uncover a wrist watch that he instantly recognized as his friend’s, John Sullivan. The hand moved and frantically, Thomas scrambled to the top of the trench and called for help.

Several hours later, after Mr. Sullivan was rescued from being buried alive, he told the editor of the Christian magazine interviewing him how he had decided to go alone on Washington Street to finish some work and how the sides of the trench had suddenly given in. The only thing that saved him from immediate suffocation was the fact that he had his welder’s mask on and inside it had been captured enough air to keep him alive until help came.

Instinctively, he had called for help but when it became clear that no one could hear him, he began sending out mental distress signals like an SOS ‘God Send Someone’, over and over and over.

It was while mentally repeating this wave of thought that his friend Thomas began to get the strong urge to drive up to Washington Street and consequently, save his best friend and boss.

This is a clear illustration that in our minds are powers given us by the Creator for our use and betterment.

What you constantly repeat to yourself mentally is what eventually occurs.

Now, although the story above is a clear indication of the power of positive thinking and the mind, it must be mentioned though that it is quite unrealistic to wish or pray for improvement in one’s health while rejecting and disregarding proper diet and exercise, but rather, ingesting foods and harmful habits never intended by nature to be man’s way of living at all.

It is advised therefore that the three essentials of this program, Proper Diet, Exercise and Positive Thinking, be applied together at all times for the best results.

Below is a quick exercise for the mind that is intended for everyone.

Before you can change the body, you must start first by changing the mind as it has been said:

The human mind is the greatest force on the earth!

He who has controlled the mind is full of power and can accomplish whatsoever he desires.

My friend, Take a deep breath and say the following out loud to yourself:

Today I begin a New Life!

Today, I am born anew and that which vibrates within me is the force of success!

Today I will form new habits and they will be my masters!

Indeed I am nature’s greatest miracle!

The words we utter have a direct and definite effect upon our thoughts. Words affect thoughts and help to condition them not to create negative attitudes.

Thus if your conversations and utterances are scrutinized and disciplined to contain positive expressions, the results will be peaceful ideas and consequently a peaceful mind.

As mentioned earlier, observing daily moments of silence is in itself an important limb of optimal health. It is to be mentioned that daily practices of silence are great catalysts for training the mind. These techniques will be provided for you to increase your focus and throw off lethargy that could result from erratic thinking and increase your overall emotional health.

As Thomas Carlyle stated: “Silence is the element in which great things fashion themselves”

The Yoga Relaxation Pose outlined in Chapter 3 of my book “Yoga Fitness: Inside and Out”, is one of the poses geared directly to ensuring the daily exercise of silence and positive mental attunement is accomplished. Therefore, do ensure that you look into this pose for more details.

“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”–Aristotle
