Never Underestimate The Power of the Mind (Part 2)

Friends, at this stage, I would like to bring up James Allen (November 28, 1864 – 1912) who was a British philosophical writer known for his inspirational books and poetry and as a pioneer of the self-help movement. His best known work, “As a Man Thinketh”, has been mass produced since its publication in 1903. It has been a source of inspiration to motivational and self-help authors.

He points out that “Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results; bad thoughts and actions can never produce good results.”

He further pointed out that “suffering is always the effect of wrong thought in some direction. It is an indication that the individual is out of harmony with himself, with the low of his being.”

He argued that, “A particular train of thought persisted in, be it good or bad, cannot fail to produce its results on the character and circumstances. A man can directly choose his thoughts, and so indirectly, yet surely, can shape his circumstances.”

James Allen convinced and encouraged us that we should cease from our sinful thoughts, and all the world will soften towards us, and be ready to help us; let us put away our weakly and sickly thoughts, and lo, opportunities will spring up on every hand to aid our strong resolves. Dwell on good thoughts, and no hard fate shall bind us down to wretchedness and shame.

Finally, he reminds you readers that “If you would perfect your body, guard your mind. If you would renew your body, beautify your mind!”

That being said, let’s go over another tool for self-improvement.

–Self- fulfilling Prophecy/Affirmations

This process involves specifically saying what will or won’t happen to you in your life, intentionally or not. So, in other words watch what you say. One of the wisest men that ever lived stated that “Death and life is in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat of its fruit!” Proverbs 18:21. So, as much as possible, speak positive affirmations to your life.

They tend to make you take the actions and steps to accomplish them and have been proven to shape the path towards achieving your goals or binding you in failure.

For example instead of saying “I’m having a bad day,” why not try “It’s not what I’d like but it’s getting better’ or as the Yogis suggest DON’T SPEAK! (There are times in life when introspectiveness and silence might prove to be the much needed remedies)

Positive thinking is the third limb of naturopathy or drugless healing of the body and is of utmost importance even in its use for improving one’s health.  The condition of the mind has an influence on everybody’s bodily functions such as circulation and digestion, thus positive attunement and thinking are vital for the success with this program.
