Just How Safe is Honey For Health?

Coincidentally, even the Bible has something to say about honey: “It is not good to eat much honey” (Proverbs 25:16, 27). Personally, I used to think honey was a safe product to use and went as far as to get the genuine honey that comes in the white form. This was in the year 2000 when I began the vegan diet with a more distinct approach, as in-no more processed, junk, refined foods.

At this point, on a daily basis, I always drink lemonade for the reasons listed elsewhere in this article. Presently, I drink it unflavored and unsweetened, but, I used to use honey. However after some incidents with it, I switched to Genuine Grade B maple syrup (which is okay or permissible, not necessarily ideal). Now, I simply prefer the sour, lemony taste of just lemons and water.

In regards to honey, here’s my experience with it. I sweetened up the lemonade with the honey and drank it as I always did, but I noticed that instead of feeling energized and hydrated, I felt the total opposite-weak, with an associated dry mouth. Perhaps this may not be the experience of several people, however for me, maybe I was most susceptible to honey’s suspicious ill-effects simply because the solution used to be my early morning drink to begin the day, so it was inevitably consumed on an empty stomach.

I did not want to accept it could be the honey affecting me, since it is said to be a natural food, but I definitely felt bad.

That said, based on research done into using honey, I will say since it doesn’t originate from the plant kingdom, it is susceptible to excessive refining and tampering with by its handlers, I will not recommend it be used at any time internally. Honey is manufactured from the nectar picked up from the flowers by the bees- good enough in itself, perhaps- then predigested, vomited and stored for their own future use with a preservative added. It is deficient in calcium and has many detrimental effects on the human being.

Like milk, honey is “a magical and mystical word in “Healthfoodland”. It is one of the most over promoted, overpriced products being sold to uninformed consumers. However, the great value attributed to honey is false… honey is only a little richer in nutrients and slightly less dangerous than white sugar.

Quite similar to alcohol, since it is predigested, honey goes into the blood directly, raising the sugar content very rapidly above normal. So, to correct this, the pancreas has to produce insulin immediately or possibly death can occur. More insulin than necessary is likely to be produced, and the blood sugar level then could drop below normal which could result in blackout spells and even death if it goes to low. Most likely, this is what may have caused me to feel weak after using honey.

When blood sugar is below normal, a person will feel depressed. Furthermore, the regular use of honey can create constant imbalances, which in turn will adversely affect the normal function of the liver, pancreas and spleen.

As a permissible alternative, the balanced sugar in maple syrup and fresh sugar cane juice (as in the ones you juice yourself) causes no dangerous side effects. However, artificial, synthetic, and refined sugars have no place in a natural diet.
