Appetite Control and the Bible

Now, Brothers and Sisters, I want to share this information with you that is really thought provoking when you analyze just how important it may be for us to learn how to control our appetites.

Take a look at the following verses:

“For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.” 1 Corinthians 15:22

The Scriptures tell us, “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” But the last Adam–that is, Christ–is a life-giving Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 15:45

It should be easy to deduce that the two men on whom the entire History/Destiny of mankind hinges on (to a degree at least) are Adam and Jesus Christ.

Now, refer to these verses:

Genesis 3:1-7 and the following specific ones,

“Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” (Genesis 3:3)

The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” (Matthew 4:3)

Now, do you notice that both were the first temptations given to the First and Second Adams respectively?

Secondly, do you notice that both had to do with food?

It’s very telling that perhaps the world would not have turned out the way it seems to be now if our first Adam had simply NOT eating the forbidden item. It’s equally thought provoking that had Jesus not resisted Satan’s temptation, perhaps all of mankind would be doomed right now.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, we have to learn from both of these Men in the Bible in that we have to exercise self-control with what we eat.

- Controlling one’s appetite is paramount to being able to exercise self-control in other aspects of life. (Including sexual activities.)

- You are what you eat.

- Each time God gave mankind the instruction to ‘be fruitful and multiply’ He states what and how to eat (See Genesis 1:29 and Genesis 9:4)

- After God gives prohibition on Sexual sins in Leviticus 20, He reminds us of the necessity of eating the right items.

Gluttony adversely affects our character in all areas of self-control, exhausting us of perseverance for good and draining us of resistance to evil.

A person given to appetite has little or no willpower to resist his excessive cravings, The inability to say, “No,” comes from excessive desire that takes control of us. The shoe is on the wrong foot! Instead of being under self-control, we are being controlled!

That being said, I would like to conclude by saying that there is NO way that Mark 7:19 could mean that Jesus declared all meats clean when you consider all that has been pointed out here and the following verses: (Pastors, Preachers, Church Leaders…please take note since we rely on you guys to lead us!)

1. “Even though I gave them ALL my laws, they act as if those laws don’t apply to them.” Hosea 8:12

2 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5: 17-20

3. “Your priests have violated my instructions and defiled my holy things. They make no distinction between what is holy and what is not. And they do not teach my people the difference between what is ceremonially clean and unclean. They disregard my Sabbath days so that I am dishonored among them.” Ezekiel 22:26

4. 16 “For with fire and with his sword the LORD will execute judgment on all people and many will be those slain by the LORD.”

17 “Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one who is among those WHO EAT THE FLESH OF PIGS, rats and other unclean things-they will meet their end together with the one they follow,” declares the LORD. Isaiah 66:16-17,

After reading all these verses, please reconsider the scientifically proven dangers of eating unclean animals presented in this article. Well, I fail to see why Jesus would want to harm His Bride-the Church- physically (by telling us to eat the wrong things that would make us sick) or spiritually (by telling us to disobey the laws of the Father.)

It’s safe to say we should be on the same page now.
